About Colchester

Colchester is the oldest recorded town in Britain and for a time the capital of Roman Britain.  During the Mediaeval Period, the Norman Keep Colchester Castle was built and remains a principal landmark in the town.  

Colchester has always held importance for the military and the Colchester Garrison is home to the 16th Air Assault Brigade. Attwells are proud supporters of the Armed Forces.

Colchester Zoo is on the outskirts of town towards Stanway.

The Mercury Theatre located near Colchester Arts Centre is particularly popular around Christmas with its legendary pantomime.
